You Found This Place Where?

When you think of overshot water mills, you don't think of Mississippi. The highest place in the state is around five hundred feet. This place is south of Meridian Mississippi and is called Dunn's Falls. Sometime around 1850 a young Irish Immigrant found this stream. It had the perfect amount of drop to set up an overshot mill. The Confederacy took over the mill and required him to manufacture war goods and weave woolen clothing. In peacetime he ground wheat and fine corn meal for everyone in the area. He moved on after the war but no one knows where. This fall plunges into the Chunky River some sixty five feet below.
