Fifty years ago today the music died.
Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper crashed in a snow covered field near clear lake Iowa.
They were touring across the Midwest. Their old bus broke down and the heater didn't work very well.
Waylen Jennings was a base planer they had picked up along the way. He got bumped off the plane to ride the bus to its next destination. According to Jennings the guy who bumped him said "I hope you freeze on that old bus"
Jennings said " I hope your damned plane crashes"
From Jenning's interview years later, those harmless words haunted him.
