Bracket Fungi

I found this cousin to athlete's foot growing on a pecan tree.
When you see brackets like this growing on a tree you can be pretty sure that either part or all of this tree is dead.

Enterprise Mississippi

I ran across Canecutter the other day at a little quick stop in Enterprise. I didn't get his name but he is out there every day hauling logs. He said his daddy named him Canecutter for the Swamp Rabbit in the area.

Here's to all you boys who do the hauling.

Sciple's Mill

There is an old water mill north of Meridian Mississippi that still grinds corn. Water is backed up in a mill pond. When the gate is opened water falls down into a turbine which slowly turns one of two large mill stones. The bottom stone is stationary. The top stone turns and grinds the corn. The miller adjusts the rocks until he gets the consistency he wants. With slow stone grinding the meal is never over heated. The meal has more jagged edges even though particles are tiny. Modern grinding overheats the meal and balls it up. Stone ground meal is excellent in scraping and cleansing the digestive system.

When I was a kid the Tennessean passed our house twice each day. The schedule below must hav e been changed later. The train passed our house about 9:30 pm and again around 5:30 am. The run was from Memphis to Washington to Memphis.
It was a beautiful train or combination even though it killed some of my favorite Beagles.

Why is it--------------excuse me------------I meant to say "how come" when you are in Tennessee the term is corn shucks
and when your in the Midwest its corn husk?

You have no idea how much sleep I have lost over this.


I suppose it would sound odd to wave your pom poms and yell for Nebraska "Go Shuckers"
